5 Things The Queer Eye Fab Five Taught Us

5 Things The Queer Eye Fab Five Taught Us

I’m probably not the only one that’s become obsessed with the new Queer Eye on Netflix. In fact several people I know are just as emotionally invested in it as I am, so it’s comforting to know I’m not alone when I say I’ve cried at most episodes. Whilst watching (and rewatching) both series, I realised that the Fab Five have actually taught us some valuable life lessons. I also just wanted any excuse to go on about Queer Eye, so I present to you 5 things the Fab Five have taught us:

1. It’s Never Too Late To Learn Something New

If there’s one word to describe Queer Eye, it’s inspirational. They’re always teaching people valuable life lessons, not just on the show but to all the people watching too. Jonathan made a point of saying how people always say “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” which actually isn’t true because you can reinvent yourself whenever and however you want – whether that’s by learning a new skill or changing up your style every now and then, there’s always time to learn something new

2. The French Tuck

The one fashion tip I really took away from the show is the French tuck. If you’ve not heard of it, it’s basically where you tuck in the front of your shirt/jumper/sweatshirt into your trousers and let the back hang out. It looks dead trendy and makes it seem like you’ve put more effort into your outfit when in reality you’ve just thrown on jeans and a tshirt.

Observe, the French tuck in action.

3. Style Is Not Fashion

One of my favourite quotes ever is from Tan when he talks about the difference between fashion and style:

“Style is not fashion. Fashion is not trendy after a season. I couldn’t give a shit about fashion. Style is dressing the way that you feel confident and what is appropriate for you, your age, body type.”

This quote really stuck with me because I always used to stress myself out about fashion and try to keep up with the latest trends or be ahead of the game. Now though I dress however I want, whether it’s fashionable or not. There’s day where I dress like I’m living in the 90’s and then there’s days where I actually look like a fashion blogger. I’ve stopped caring about fashion because honestly, worrying that leopard print won’t be trendy next season is not worth the stress.

4. Self-Care Is Important

TRUTH. A lot of us are guilty of not taking enough time to look after ourselves. I’m pretty bad for it, I either just won’t have time or I’ll be too tired to do anything. Lately though I’ve been trying to take more time for myself by doing little things. I’ve started doing more skincare in an attempt to have a little pamper time and treat myself because I deserve it! It’s so important to look after ourselves because if we don’t, who will?

5. You Are Strong. You Are A Kelly Clarkson Song

Saved the best for last didn’t I? Perhaps the best pearl of wisdom to take away from Queer Eye. Jonathan has many inspirational quotes but this is one that I repeat to myself pretty frequently, I feel if I say it enough I’ll believe it. Fake it til you make it, people.

Have you watched the new Queer Eye yet? What are your thoughts? Let me know!
